CANCELLED.  Thursday, March 5, at 7:00 pm – Room 255, Sobey Building, Saint Mary’s University – D’Arcy McGee Lecture –  New York University professor Nicholas Wolf, author of The Other ‘Silence’?, will explore his ground-breaking work on the reasons behind the decline of the Irish language. Dr. Wolf challenges received wisdom and brings new scholarship to bear on how Ireland and the Irish language emerged from the 19th century.  Admission is free.  CANCELLED.

Friday, March 13, at 7:00 pm – McNally Auditorium, Saint Mary’s University – 9th annual Cyril Byrne Memorial Lecture – Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue, critically acclaimed writer and best-selling author of Slammerkin, will read and participate in an audience Q&A.  The evening will begin at 7:00 pm with a live performance by ECMA-winning singer-songwriter Erin Costello.  As always, admission to the Cyril Byrne Lecture is free and all are welcome.

Saturday, March 14, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm – CIBC Auditorium, 6050 University Avenue, 2nd floor – 2nd annual Dalhousie Gaelic Colloquium – Presentations and discussions about the Gaelic languages of Ireland and Scotland.  Guest speakers are: Frances MacEachern (Gaelic Affairs Division, Government of Nova Scotia), Michael Linkletter (Celtic Studies, St. Francis Xavier University, Amy Mitchell (Irish Studies, Saint Mary’s University), and Heather Sparling (Department of Heritage and Culture, Cape Breton University).   For more information contact Jerry White at Jerry.White@Dal.Ca.

Saturday, March 14, at 11:00 am sharpSt. Patrick’s Day Parade – This year’s parade will begin on South Park Street next to Holy Cross Cemetery, turn down Spring Garden Road, and then go along Barrington Street to the Grand Parade,  beside Halifax City Hall.  Be part of the An Cumann contingent. We’ll be gathering at 10:30 a.m. on South Park, near the cemetery.  (Look for the An Cumann banner or ask one of the parade organizers.)

Saturday, March 14, at 6:30 pm – Saint Agnes Church Auditorium, corner of Chebucto Road and Mumford Road, Halifax – An Cumann’s 25th Annual St. Patrick’s Céilí.  Irish stew, Irish music, dancing and singing.  Tickets are $20 for adults ($25 at the door, if any are left) and $5 for children.  For further information call 902-266-2072 or 902-479-1110 or send us an email at info@ancumann.org.

Tuesday, March 17,  from 7:00 am – The Old Triangle, corner of Bedford Row and Prince Street, Halifax – St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast.  A Halifax tradition and a fund-raiser for An Cumann.  Start the big day off right.
