2020 Céilí Cancelled / Postponed – Parade Cancelled

After consulting with the Board of Directors, An Cumann’s President, Ronan Holland, has announced the cancellation of the annual St. Patrick’s Céilí, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, at St. Agnes Church Hall in Halifax. This action was taken, with regret, due to concern about potentially exposing persons attending the Ceili to the Covid-19 virus.

There have been increasing warnings from government and health officials about the importance of maintaining safe distances from others so as to reduce the chance of transmission of the disease. Maintaining distance from others is contrary to the essence of a Céilí and Irish dancing.

Another factor in the decision was the utter lack of hand sanitizers, wipes and disinfectants in stores throughout the Halifax area.

An Cumann’s hope is to hold the Céilí on a later date when the threat of Covid-19 has passed.
